Support - Dial-Up Configuration (Macintosh OS X)

This tutorial describes in detail how to connect your Macintosh computer running the OSX operating system to Extreme Internet for the first time. It is intended for new customers, or current customers who are trying to connect a new machine to Extreme Internet for the first time.

  1. To begin setting up your connection, click on the Apple menu, and select "System Preferences..."

  2. Once the System Preferences window loads, click on "Network" to load the Network Preferences.

  3. In the Network Preferences pane, set location to "Automatic," and set Show to "Internal Modem." Set Configure to "use PPP." The "Domain Name Servers" should be entered as shown below, with each address on a separate line.  Enter 64.140.128.10 and 64.140.128.11 respectively. The "Search Domain" should be blank. When you've entered this, click on the "PPP" tab.

  4. In the PPP tab, Service Provider should say Extreme Internet, and the Telephone number is 480-368-4621.  The Account name is your Extreme Internet user name, with a capital "P" in front of it (ie. "Pjoe" for username "joe")  The password is your Extreme Internet password (it IS case sensitive). If you don't want to have to type in your password every time you connect, check the "save password" box.

  5. If you would like to change the PPP options, click on the "PPP Options" button, and make changes there. If you want to automatically connect to Extreme Internet when you open your web browser, or email program, make sure that "Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications" is checked. If it's unchecked, you will have to connect manually using the Internet Connect application. Click "OK" to exit PPP Options.

  6. By default, the proxy settings tab is blank. Extreme Internet does not require proxy settings. Leave these blank.

  7. If you ever need to change your internal modem protocol from V90 to V34, you would do so by clicking on the "Modem:" pull-down menu, and selecting "Apple Internal 56k Modem(V.34)." Make sure that the modem is set to "tone" dialing instead of "pulse."

  8. Once you are all through configuring the network preferences, click on "Apply Now" and close the window.
